THE PINEHILL HAINTS  (Happy Valentines!) w/ Zippers To Nowhere

- This might be a Valentines day prank since the only evidence of this show was some ink scratched on a piece of notebook paper found at The Pickle Barrel. The F-grade art project was actutally hung on one of the columns, so we expect the promotion was meant to be taken seriously...however executed. All we can say is that we truly hope the 'Haints are actually playing. This will (would?) be the best thing you could ever take your sweet something to for that special night out

FAST BOYS - 7" Release of Suck It

Fast Boys 7" - Suck ItFast Boys - 7" Suck It (back image)

This week's edition of The Pulse is devoted to all thing vinyl in Chattanooga—the shops where you'll find the best selection of new and used records, the bands that issue their music on vinyl, and the fans and collectors who still believe in the purity of the black platter. In the spirit of the issue, we thought we'd take a local record for a spin on the turntable.

Among the local bands who issue their music on vinyl are the Fast Boys, a straight-forward rock band who recently released "Suck It," and unmastered seven-inch recording on the Youngmonster label. "Suck It" is, in our humble opinion, exactly the type of release you want, no...need, to listen to on a turntable. Of course, you can listen to the stream of the title song here as a digital file, but you should not be satisfied with that. No, you should not. This bit of chemical resin has a spirit and sound impossible to digitally duplicate.

The sound of Fast Boys is reminiscent of the past, minus the pandering revival. It’s simply, utterly, Rock N’ Roll. The guitars buzz with forceful, fuzzed compression; the hooks are front and center, clear and penetrating. The drums propel the controlled yet chaotic compositions and the Boys' vocals are as distinct and raw as their sound.

This record demands your attention and rewards you immediately. Kudos and credit goes to Mike Pack and Alex Norfleet at Revolution Sound Studios for their noteworthy engineering. You just can’t imagine this coming from any other band except Fast Boys. It’s their own sound, their lyrics...they own this.

To experience the Fast Boys live, check out the band's record release party on Friday, Dec. 23, at Lindsay Street Hall with guests Real Drag and stand-up comedy from Tony Levi. Go. Listen. Pick up your seven inches of goodness. Or, as the Boys would say: "Suck It." — Zach
