Chattanooga is, surprisingly to some, a popular destination for geek fandom—those who celebrate the "fantastic arts" that encompass science fiction, fantasy, horror, comics, gaming, anime, costuming and the like.
Last year, there were six conventions in the city (and another pair in nearby Dalton) that ranged in attendence from a few hundred to several thousand.
One of the largest Cons takes place this weekend at both the Chattanooga Choo-Choo and the Convention Center. Over 2,000 fans are expected to attend for a weekend of fun.
ConNooga bills itself as a convention for nearly all the many genres (and sub-genres) of the fandom world. Among the guests scheduled to attend are noted author Jim Butcher, local writer Cherie Priest, fantasy artist Tim Smith, "Torchwood" actor Gareth David Lloyd, and several dozen other notables.
One of the more notable events is their Saturday morning parade through the Southside, led by one of the original television Batmobiles.
