In 2001, mild-mannered TVA engineer Mark Marcum created a backyard event designed to celebrate the fruits of the hop and poke a little title fun at a well-known Chattanooga event as well. Thus was born “Beer Over Dirt.” In the years since, Marcum has presided over both the event’s growing popularity, and his co-launch of The Chattanooga Brewing Co.
This year, for the first time, Beer Over Dirt goes public—in a big way. On May 18, from 4-9 p.m. at Renaissance Park, enjoy brew masterpieces from CBC, The Terminal Brewhouse, Big River Brewing Co., Moccasin Bend Brewing Co., Bounty Beverage and McHale’s Brewhouse and Pub, while snacking on kweezine from Lupi’s, Southern Burger, Good Dog and Flippy’s. Music will be supplied by local favorites Endelouz, Dark Horse Ten, Bohannons and Strung Like a Horse. And by the way, you can bring well-behaved Fido on a leash.
Proceeds from BOD benefit the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy. Your $30 donation gets you a wristband entitling you to all beverages (food is extra). Find out more and get tickets at beeroverdirt.com. Cash only day of the event, which will go on rain or shine.
