Outdoor Chattanooga organizes community camping event
Hamilton County’s “fall break” dates this year line up with a rare local opportunity. Thursday, Oct. 8, is the only night of the year campers will be able to spend a night under the stars at Greenway Farms in Hixson.
There will, of course, be classic activities like roasting s’mores by the fireside, but the campout will also feature extra fun like a bluegrass performance during the evening by local band The Von Wamps outside the Farm’s rustic log cabin.
After dark, there will be stargazing with the Barnard Astronomical Society, who will provide telescopes for campers to use.
In the morning, campers will wake up to a steaming hot pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. and a group yoga class if anyone needs some stretching after spending the night in a sleeping bag. The experience may be short, but it’s sure to be a good one.
The campout is sponsored by Outdoor Chattanooga and is a once-a-year community event that coincides with their Fireside Music Series, giving both rookie and seasoned campers a relaxed opportunity to camp close to home.
Tents can be pitched starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday and must be packed up by 9 a.m. Friday morning. Contact outdoorchattanooga.com
