The Bessie Smith Cultural Center is excited about their new exhibit currently on display in the museum. The exhibit titled A Tribute to Roland Hayes will be available for viewing from now until October 31, 2015.
The exhibit gives a look into the life of Roland Hayes who was born in Gordon County, Georgia and grew up in Chattanooga. The son of a former slave, opera star Roland Hayes rose to international stardom and was the first classical singer to incorporate black spiritual music into his repertoire, bringing a new level of appreciation and respect to that material.
