This sculpture class meets once a week on Wednesdays evenings and is taught by artist Maria Willison.
Bas-relief sculptures are a sculptor’s link between two dimensions and three dimensions. Bas-relief, a French term meaning “low relief” is a kind of carving or sculpture in which the figures and forms are raised a few inches from a flat background to give a three-dimensional effect. Bas-relief can be found in many applications including fine art, architecture and the coins in your pocket. In this 5 week class, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of this beautiful and classical technique. Working with white clay, students will sculpt from two simple still lifes and will gain an excellent foundation and knowledge for future sculpture endeavors.
