Join Family Promise of Greater Chattanooga for an urban camping experience at AT&T Field to raise funds for FPGC’s Day Center and increase awareness of the struggles homeless families face. The Sixth Annual Box City Camp Out to Stamp Out Family Homelessness is Saturday, Nov. 1, 5 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 2 at 7 a.m.
Youth groups, families, volunteers and other campers will learn about the living conditions homeless families face by building their own cardboard box sleeping space in Box City (cardboard boxes will be provided) or by bringing their own camping equipment, spending the night outdoors in an urban campground setting and eating in the bread line.
The Camp Out will feature The Box City Contest during which teams build a shelter within two hours using materials found on site or bringing their own pre-fabricated and decorated materials (details about allowed materials can be found on the Camp Out registration form). Prizes will be awarded for the best box cities built by an individual or a group as well as for the most pledges raised by a group. Box City Contest entry fees are just $10 per team member and all monies raised benefit Family Promise programs that assist homeless families to become stable, employed and safely housed.
