Considering our recent state of civil unrest Ryder Richards will be providing a workshop on how to deign/build your own gas mask out of everyday materials. Generated from research into "how to riot" as a civilian rebuttal against authoritative institutions, Richards will guide a brief discussion on power and responsibility, reflecting on DIY ingenuity and information sharing as the kryptonite to capitalism.
Join us Wednesday, October 26th at AVA - Association for Visual Arts and construct your own fully-functioning gas mask with ARC resident artist Ryder Richards.
Ryder was a fellow at Roswell Artist-in-Residence from September 2012 until August 2013, held the art department chair at Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX, and is now an independent artist. The Texas-based artist received his bachelor of fine arts in painting and drawing from Texas Tech University, with a master of fine arts in painting from Texas Christian University. His work has been exhibited internationally including Olm Space, Switzerland; Antena, Chicago; the Texas and Dallas Biennials; and the Dallas Museum of Art. He is a co-founder of the RJP Nomadic Gallery, Culture Laboratory, and Dallas-based group The Art Foundation.
