Film: Silver Wings & Civil Rights
Price: $5 - Exclusive Southeast screening of the documentary that tells the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen as told by the airmen themselves. In WWII, the first group of African-Americans to fly for the U.S. military proved themselves equals among their fellow flyers. Overseas they had defeated one enemy. At home, the fight for equality was to be their greatest victory as they blazed the way for Civil Rights. Named for the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama where they trained, the Tuskegee Airmen were instrumental in bringing about the 1948 Presidential Order that desegregated the armed forces. This event will help raise funds for the continued revitalization and renovation of Chattanooga’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium and Community Theatre. Admission is $5. Tickets are available at the Auditorium box office now and at the door. Sorry, no online or phone sales.
