"A Mirror On America" is Held Over by Popular Demand
W. Michael Bush's latest series is provocative and moving - It takes us all out of "comfort zone". We are constantly bombarded by harsh news stories and often become desensitized to our surroundings. Michael uses his bold artistic talent to share his perspective and in his words:
"My newest series of works is aimed with a critical eye on our society and some of its most flagrant ills.
The hope is that, with honesty of introspection, we will recover from this period of greed and avarice and begin to see our fellow citizens with more humane eyes.
Our problems are not unique to the United States of America. But they reflect a widespread mentality that has been embraced, sadly, by young and old alike.
This collection is just part of a larger group of works that is designed to stimulate conversation – not argument. I just feel that it is time for all of us to do some soul-searching as to how we might help each other through this journey called life."
We are pleased to host this installation through the end of August. Stop by First Friday August (8/5) for another opportunity to meet Michael, join the dialogue, mingle with our gallery artist family, toast to your week's successes, to ..."liberty and justice for all" and to a kinder more gentler nation.

About Area 61:
Area 61 gallery opened in 2009 by woodworkers/master craftsmen David Crewe and Rudd Montgomery as a gallery or showroom to meet clients, sell their work and collaborate on commissioned pieces. After moving in, they realized that there was additional space that would allow other local artists the opportunity to show/sell their work and create a "buy local" collaborative environment.
Area 61 hosts the work of over 30 artists and craftsmen (local or in the immediate surrounding Chattanooga area) and features hand-crafted artisan furniture, woodwork, Fine Art, jewelry, pottery, sculpture and more.
FIRST FRIDAY Chattanooga is a monthly chance to connect and see what's new in our city's vibrant artist community. The First Friday of each month, participating Chattanooga downtown galleries & artist studios extend their hours, host openings, receptions and "meet the artists" events.*
