Icons in Transformation

St Paul's Episcopal/Second Presbyterian 700 Pine St, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402
An international traveling exhibit exploring the interaction of traditional Russian icons with paintings and sculptures by Russian abstract expressionist Ludmila Pawlowska. Icons in Transformation presents the mystery and spiritual power of the icon transformed into modern masterpieces of art. It highlights traditional Russian icons as sources of inspiration for contemporary art. Pawlowska's modern three-dimensional artwork incorporates traditional icon elements such as the use of eyes, metallic paints, and the colors red, blue, and gold - while at the same time "bending the rule" through the use of sculpture, collage, large-scale wood panels, natural stone, fabric, and handwriting in multiple languages.
