May Exhibit: Materials Intertwined. May 1-31, 2014. Featuring Kim Keats and Bernie Rowell. OPENING RECEPTION:FRIDAY, May 2, 6:30-8pm. River Gallery, 400 E. Second Street, Downtown Chattanooga. ARTISTS WILL BE PRESENT AT THE OPENING RECEPTION!! Moving through nature serves as a starting point for both our featured artists in the May exhibit Materials Intertwined - collecting ideas, materials, and inspiration from their natural surroundings. Though their work seems vastly different in medium, the ode to Mother Earth is evident in their creations as they sew, weave, and interlace their materials. While Kim Keats is entwining tree bark with stone and twig to create sculpture, Bernie Rowell is stitching fibers together to depict those same elements in her quilts. Coming from both North and South Carolina, they bring with them a body of work that unites the intimate nature of the handmade with the complexities of our environment.Events are free and open to the public. www.river-gallery.com. 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday And by appointment.
