Open Mic Storytelling Night
First Draft Theater 1800 Rossville Ave., City of Chattanooga, Tennessee
On Sunday, November 12 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., The Chattery will host its first storytelling open mic night at Improv Chattanooga, 1800 Rossville Avenue.
The art of storytelling has become a popular phenomenon over the years. From events like The Moth to the local version of PechaKucha, open mic storytelling is an opportunity for friends, colleagues and strangers to unite. “Sometimes it’s best to learn by doing,” says Jennifer Holder, operations headmaster at The Chattery. “This event allows participants the opportunity to practice their storytelling and public speaking skills in real time.”
The rules for the night are simple: the story must be true, from the heart, and five minutes or less. Each open mic storytelling night will be themed and the first theme is “firsts”. Storytellers can share stories ranging from their first loves to their first time riding a bike, anything goes.
The MC for the night will be The Chattery teacher, Elisa Negroni, a certified Speaking Circle facilitator. She has over 30 years’ experience in community relations and relationship coaching and currently teaches classes like the Art of Authentic Presence, for The Chattery.
Guests can sign up to share their stories on site, on the night of the event. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased at www.thechattery.org
