Ragtag Ramblers
The Ragtime Ramblers are a local stringband devoted to playing Old Time Music in the era before radio and television was in most homes. The “Rambers” are devoted to playing and preserving musical traditions prevalent before the 1930s in America. Their music includes tunes and songs originating from many regions of the Southeastern United States, including the mountains of Appalachia and the lowlands of Mississippi. The group’s leader, David Varnell started playing regional music over fifty years ago, with Uncle Dave Macon being a huge influence. David’s banjo playing and vocals reflect the influence and attitude of Uncle Dave as well as others. Gil and Dianne Sewell play an old style of music which attempts to capture both the spirit and feel of times past.Together, the “Ramblers” will take you back to a time when music was an expression of the life and times of rural America.
