Vespers With Icons
An Evening of Traditional Orthodox Liturgical Music
Presented by the Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church Senior Choir
Chattanooga, TN - On Sunday, September 29, The Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels, the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Senior Choir will present a special Vespers Service with Icons at 4:00 p.m. Featuring traditional Orthodox liturgical music in English, this meditative candlelight service with prayers and readings will combine elements of Orthodox Vespers and Compline with Anglican Evening Prayer.
Music will include works by Tchaikowsky, Kopylow, and Ippolitov-Ivanoff as well as liturgical chants from Eastern Orthodox sources. A free-will offering will be accepted. A reception will follow in Key-Andrews Parish Hall.
This service is presented during the exhibition of Icons in Transformation, an international traveling exhibit exploring the interaction of traditional icons at Vassilevsly Monastery in Russian with paintings and sculptures by Russian abstract expressionist Ludmila Pawlowska. The exhibition will be open for viewing one hour prior to Vespers With Icons and will be available for viewing during the reception which follows.
