Our new man on the barstool shows how to get to the tropics, Papa-style
Avast ye! Do the whispering winter winds keep you up at night fantasizing about sandy beaches, high tides, and summer cocktails? Well, it’s time to rest easy, because although summer won’t be here for another few months, the answer to your dreams comes in the form of...rum.
Straight from sailing the seven seas, Captain Morgan arrives with three new flavors designed to melt away the midwinter blues.
Since 1944, Captain Morgan’s brand of rum has been the go-to when it comes to island-hopping liquors. Last year, the company stretched the definitions of what rum could achieve when they introduced Captain Morgan’s White Rum to massive success.
The liquor attracted regular rum lovers, while also catching the attention of vodka purists. This year, the Captain has a few new rum tricks hidden up the sleeves of his red pirate coat.
Say “ahoy, matey,” to the three new sailors joining Captain Morgan’s White Rum fleet. Inspired by the pristine Virgin Islands, Pineapple, Coconut, and Grapefruit rum will be shaking up parties this year, and adding a little bit of the “pirate’s life” to your summer (or pre-summer) cocktail.
Distilled five times at the Captain Morgan Rum Distillery in St. Croix, these tropical treasures taste like a tidal wave of pleasure crashing onto your senses. The ship will be rocking back and forth after a few sips from these 70-proof spirits. Along with the Captain’s celebrated white rum, the new concoctions combine sweet, fine cane molasses and natural flavors to create a liquor from under the seas and out of this world.
Drink like Papa with the Captain’s Grapefruit Rum. Throughout time, grapefruit and liquor have inspired some of the world’s greatest minds. Ernest Hemingway was famously known for mixing these two ingredients with the Papa Doble. Captain Morgan’s new Grapefruit Rum combines the drink’s two main ingredients, grapefruit and rum, which makes it a mixture Papa surely would have appreciated.
For the perfect Papa Doble, combine Grapefruit Rum with Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, fresh lime juice, syrup sugar, and a shot of grapefruit juice. In “Islands in the Stream,” Ernest Hemingway wrote, “They had no taste of alcohol and felt, as you drank them, the way downhill glacier skiing feels running through powder snow.”
Close your eyes while sipping Pineapple rum, and it’s easy to imagine yourself lounging on Pe’ahi beach in Maui, watching 20-foot waves crashing in the surf. Grab some pineapple juice and coconut cream from the swim-up bar (or your home bar) and this new twist on the old classic pina colada will have you surfing the breaks in no time.
Coconut seems to be the craze these days, and Captain Morgan’s Coconut rum capitalizes on the trend with a mixture that crushes all competitors. Combine this with pineapple juice and enjoy a colorful combination of nature’s most exotic fruits.
Don’t let the winter dregs bring you down. Float your way over to the closest spirits store, pick up a bottle of Captain Morgan’s White Flavored Rum—because, sometimes, you need a reminder that not every day of the year begins and ends with subzero temperatures.
Summer’s coming soon, and there’s never a wrong time to stir up an old-fashioned beach-dreaming, Captain-Morgan-White-Flavored-Rum-mixing, high-seas-sailing, cocktail.
