It takes courage to march to the beat of one’s own drummer. There’s a great deal of obvious and overt pressure to conform. Just look at the socially-sanctioned rituals that saturate our society with congratulations for conformity: From baby showers to weddings, job promotions to graduations. There’s a lot of social advantage to conformity.
I have a cousin who decided to travel before getting her education; decided to stay single longer than her peers before marrying; decided to adopt later in life. She’s led one of the happiest lives I know of.
Whatever paths you choose in life, I hope they are fully yours. Informed by the wisdom of others, filled with the love of those who wish you well, and actualized according to your soul’s desire.
