Finding out what exactly we all do when we go online
We check email, surf the web, watch videos and play games. But what else do we use the Internet for?
To find out, our friends at the Statistic Brain Research Institute asked 53,043 people what they've done online in the past 12 months.
- 62% have done research
- 50% have gone banking
- 80% have found out about consumer products
- 58% have bought something
- 15% have bought stock
- 15% have met new people for social purposes
- 62% have looked up medical information
- 43% have booked a flight or other travel reservations
- 56% have found someone's address or phone number
- 20% have played an online or person-to-person game
- 46% have looked for a new job or career opportunity
- 21% have taken part in an online forum or chat room
- 35% have found information about political or social policy issues, current affairs, or political campaigns
Interestingly enough, what we call the "Internet" has only been around since the Advanced Research Projects Agency went online in 1969, connecting four U.S. universities together.
Now, nearly 3 billion people are online, and the number keeps growing every single day.
