Jeni & Billy
The ghosts of Appalachia haunt the lyrics and melodies of Jeni & Billy's music: coal miners and quilting bees, pentecostal preachers and beauty queens, moonshine and oxycodone, the quiet dignity and hard work of those who manage to carve a living out of the mountains.
The duo are out with a new CD of both traditional and original tunes — Longing for Heaven — that Maverick Magazine calls “hope infused” and “totally genuine.” The CD includes traditional tracks like the Carter Family's big 1929 hit "Single Girl" and, in the words of Chapel Hill novelist Lee Smith, "stunningly original" new numbers like "If I Ever Get Ten Dollars" and "The Ballad of Sally Kincaid."
