Nickels For Nepal Pancake Breakfast

Nickels For Nepal, a 501c3 non-profit organization, working in partnership with the Chattanooga Nepali Association and Gamma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota, a professional organization of educators, who have been supporting children in remote village schools in Nepal since 2009. 

“The Nepali people are wonderful; and it is so distressing to visit the remote village schools that have no resources and are surrounded by such beautiful landscapes and abject poverty” stated Chris Hockert, Chairman of the Board of Nickels for Nepal. 

Nickels for Nepal in partnership with Kappa Kappa Iota Gamma Chapter members set a goal of raising an additional $2,000.00 this year to obtain materials and supplies to provide a literacy center for the remote Mijar Village.  The Bishnu Baskota Literacy Center will include books for children and adults in the village as well as art supplies and traditional Nepali musical instruments.

This center will help raise the educational level of all school children and adults in the village and provide an outlet for cultural creativity and development. The Chattanooga Nepali Association working with Nickels for Nepal is raising funds to provide desperately needed supplies and equipment to disabled children at a boarding school in western Nepal.

“It is unbelievable that there are some children in Nepal who cannot attend school due to the lack of a school uniform because their parents cannot afford to pay for them.  Nickels for Nepal has been able to obtain complete uniforms including shoes delivered to the remote village for $20.00 each. I am proud to support the school children of the remote Mijar Village and other remote villages in Nepal” said Judy McCready of Gamma Chapter of Psi Tennessee Kappa Kappa Iota.

The benefit pancake breakfast will be held at Applebee’s Northgate Mall on Saturday November 4,2017 from 7:30AM to 9:30AM. The event will be hosted by Gamma Chapter Kappa Kappa Iota members and Chattanooga Nepali Association members.  

Donation tickets are $10.00 each and they can be obtained at the door. T-shirts, caps, and aprons will be available to purchase to support Nickels for Nepal and Gamma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota.
