Innside Restaurant is a family owned and operated breakfast and lunch spot. The crew claims they’re the best kept secret in Chattanooga.
That’s what their T-shirts, logo and menu says. But there is one secret they’re trying to expose to everyone who’ll listen: they’ve moved!
The diner once housed on Chestnut Street is now at 901 Carter Street by the Hotel Bo, where City Café used to be. They were at their former location for nearly 32 years. I asked my server what prompted the move and she said the owner of the building on Chestnut wanted to utilize the space for something else.
She said the owner also owns the building they just moved into and they open their new location on August 4th. She added the new location is a bit bigger than their former home.
Owners Tiny and Sandy Wycuff have been serving their loyal and regular customers since 1995. On their Facebook Page they mentioned how bittersweet and nostalgic it was to be losing their old location but said they were grateful they have a new location to continue serving the food their customers have grown to love.
Tiny was busy arranging things near the kitchen and Sandy was in the kitchen helping the cooks when I sat at their coffee bar. The coffee mug was huge, and the drink was piping hot. The interior is brighter than I remember from when it was City Café. There are tables along the windows and on the opposite side of the building more tables along the walls. There are two sets of coffee bar seats with high-top tables in between them.
Breakfast is served until 10:30 a.m. and the diner is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.
I ordered my two eggs, over medium, sausage patty with grits and a biscuit. Within minutes breakfast was served. The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium with the yolk still a bit runny. The grits were creamy and buttery. The biscuit was flaky and quite large. As I ate my breakfast customers kept walking in. Many greeted each other by name. Several customers were greeted by the wait staff and Tiny by name letting you know those were the regulars or “family,” if you ask the staff. It looks like the word is slowly getting out about the move.
They have plenty of breakfast options. Pancakes, biscuits and biscuits sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches and wraps, or pick and choose from their A La Carte items.
Their lunch menu includes a few meats and two vegetables and a variety of salads. Vegetable items include mashed potatoes, pinto beans, green beans, corn, Cole slaw, macaroni & cheese, soup, sliced tomatoes, apple sauce, and cottage cheese. You have the option to get a baked potato or side salad instead.
I’m willing to bet their burgers and Patty melt are the bomb. They have a bunch of sandwiches to pick from. Turkey club, ham & cheese, fried bologna, chicken or grilled chicken, tuna, grilled cheese, BLT, hot dog and a couple more.
I never ate at their prior location. When I saw their Facebook posts about the move, I thought I’d check out their new place and try their food. I’m glad I did. I’ll be back for sure.
