This week our search for the best tacos in Chatt Town actually brought us to Ringgold, Georgia.
It’s a natural thing that, upon learning that iconic legendary country music star, Dolly Parton passed away Tuesday August 25th, I did what every fan who lives nears Ringgold does, visit her mural.
Wednesday afternoon I was among the hundreds of people along Tennessee Street placing a small bouquet of flowers underneath her mural. Many people were in tears as they honored their favorite native Tennessean who devoted her life to entertaining and providing for others through her various philanthropic projects.
When Dolly married the love of her life, Carl Thomas Dean, the two did so in Ringgold on May 30, 1966. As I watched people place flowers I wondered just how many people were doing the same at their Brentwood Estate. Probably thousands.
After paying my respects to the woman who truly loved everyone, I got back in my car and drove around a bit because this was my first time in the historic Ringgold downtown area. I soon realized I’m going to need to make a few more trips to see all the neat things I stumbled upon.
One place I stumbled upon was Dos Maguey’s Mexican Restaurant. Apparently, they also have a second location in Summerville. This location has been open for about a year, according to my server. The restaurant is quite spacious with a bright interior and plenty of tables and booths.
This is another Mexican restaurant with a menu that is several pages long. On the wall they have green posterboards with their daily specials written on them, which included beer and Margarita specials.
As soon as I was seated the chips and salsa were brought to the table. A minute later I got my Sprite
They have various chicken platters and a variety of burritos. They have several appetizers, regular nachos, fajita nachos, steak platters, items for children, desserts, lunch combinations, quesadillas, regular fajitas, street tacos and more.
The street tacos come with cilantro, onions, salsa verde, lime wedge and served with rice and beans. Protein choices include steak, Al Pastor pork, carnitas or chorizo. They also have grilled chicken tacos topped with pico-de-gallo and served with beans. Or you can try their grilled fish or shrimp tacos served with rice.
All taco orders come with three tacos, and I got shrimp tacos. They were topped with a little cheese and lettuce. Rice was served on a separate plate because their portions are HUGE! The tacos had the pico-de-gallo, salsa verde and lime wedges served on the side as well so you can top your taco with as little or as much toppings as you want. I also ordered a cheese dip appetizer.
The cheese dip was creamy but not spicy like the previous cheese dip I had at Las Margaritas two weeks ago. It was still delicious and still warm and melty.
When he placed those tacos down, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t tell where one taco ended and the other started and shrimp was everywhere. It was loaded with shrimp. I tried the salsa verde and it was 7 out of 10 in terms of spiciness so I poured a little over some of the shrimp, lettuce and cheese and used my fork until I was able to lift the taco with my hand.
My next forkful was with pico-de-gallo salsa verde and a twist of lime. The shrimp were grilled perfectly and that bite with a little bit of everything was divine. I poured a little salsa verde on the rice and that sent it to the next level of flavor. There was so much food I only tackled one taco and a little bit of rice. Of course, it didn’t help that I nearly finished all the cheese dip.
I asked for a to-go container and paid my bill knowing mom was going to be happy having shrimp tacos for dinner.
Afterwards I drove back home, leftovers in tow, only to learn that Tim Curry had also passed away on Tuesday evening. No one can play Dr. Frank-N-Furter from Rocky Horror Picture Show the way he did.
