Did you know that poetry and song were once the same? The first poems were recited to music played on the lyre, which became the root of the word "lyric." Speaking truth and emotion, sonic and rhythmic, structured and free, poetry and jazz seem like natural-born partners.
In honor of National Poetry Month, the world's largest literary celebration, and Jazz Appreciation Month, which highlights the glories of jazz as both a historical and a living treasure, Jazzanooga and Southern Lit Alliance come together to present a creative collaboration where Poetry meets Jazz featuring Chattanooga's talented spoken word artist Christian Collier and the Dexter Bell Trio.
