Remember how cool it was when you first learned how to tween objects in Flash? That's how Jenn feels about using CSS transitions with hovers. In this talk, shell take a look at how adding CSS-enhanced hover states to designs can take your work to the next level and examine how these translate to touch devices. CSS transitions are all the rage these days and we'll see how just the right amount of them can keep your aesthetic classy while adding some fun and interactive elements.
Jenn Lukas is a multi-talented front-end dev from Philly. She recently left her role as the Interactive Development Director at Happy Cog to start her own consulting business. Jenn was named one of Mashables 15 Developer/Hacker Women to Follow on Twitter and teaches HTML and CSS for GirlDevelopIt.
== Practical Patterns for Performant Web Design ==
Lots of designers and developers talk a good game when it comes to designing great user experiences on the web. Sadly, few are aware of the effect poor performance can have on those experiences. In this talk, Daniel will look at a few best practices for increasing front-end user experience used by the Obama 2012 campaign and will bust a few common performance myths along the way.
Daniel Ryan is a consultant and speaker, previously the Director of Front-end Development for President Obamas 2012 election campaign. Managing a team of two dozen, he oversaw the development of the online tools and technology that helped raise $690m online, recruited hundreds of thousands of volunteers, and registered over 1 million voters. Under Daniels leadership the campaign employed a multi-screen strategy producing the first responsive website in presidential campaign history. Now Daniel is using the lessons learned from the campaign to help nonprofits and progressive organizations.
== About Code & Creativity ==
Code & Creativity is a social talk series created to connect us with each other and our larger community. Every other month, well gather at the Camp House for a few hours to listen to one local and one visiting designer/developer as they share their passions, wisdom, and war stories. We'll ask questions, talk shop, and maybe even make some new friends. Of course no gathering would be complete without something yummy in your tummy, so snacks and a tasty beverage (coffee, soft drink, or beer) are on us!
