Everyday Heroes honor the fallen
We all know a hero. Although never as celebrated as much as they should be, here is our opportunity to celebrate some of those fallen.
The 3rd Annual Everyday Heroes Gala will celebrate by honoring heroes no longer with us, Saturday April 27 at The Chattanoogan.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is an evening celebrating and supporting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (“ALS”) research and honoring all of our fallen heroes, as well as those heroes who are currently battling ALS.
Hosted by Chairs Clay and Gina Crumbliss, along with a team of community leaders and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) the celebration will include cocktails, dinner, and dancing. Among those being honored are Madge H. Wilkins, Calder Willingham, and Liza Martin Caruthers.
The event was started in loving memory of one of our own local heroes, Calder Willingham, who lost his battle with ALS shortly after being diagnosed. One of Calder’s wishes was for his family and friends to create awareness of ALS in the Chattanooga community, as well as raise funds for research to help find a cure.
The organization has a resonating message posted on their Facebook page, “ALS has many faces. Many people lose the ability to talk, walk, eat and even breathe. The average life expectancy is three to five years after an ALS diagnosis. We need to find the causes of ALS and a way to stop this devastating disease.”
