Wilkey’s new body of work explores people in ordinary situations having everyday conversations. She strives to capture the images with economy and freshness in dynamic, strong compositions. She is a lifelong resident of Southeast Tennessee, and the subjects in the paintings are part of the culture she has experienced here, but this type of interaction between people is a universal experience we all share regardless of our location. “These images speak to our common humanity. Aside from their dress, they could be living in any part of the world”, the artist explains.
