Among the most recognized deep-sea explorers, Bob Ballard is best known for his historic discoveries of hydrothermal vents, the R.M.S. Titanic, the German battleship Bismarck and other numerous shipwrecks around the world. A 2003 recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities Medal, Ballard has spent his career pushing the boundaries of technology to explore the last great frontier of the deep ocean to better understand and preserve these waters for the future.
