MMIA 's are a group of 14 artists from here in the Chattanooga and the surrounding area. We have diverse backgrounds such as working artists, potters, watercolorists, representational artists as well as teachers, make up artists, nurses and more. We share a love of the creating process using an intuitive method with direction provided by Sandra Paynter Washburn in her Experimental Watermedia Classes. We have been painting together for the past 3-4 years at Art Creations Hamilton Place.
In our upcoming show 'Mixed Media Inspired Artists Explorations', we demonstrate our use of artist generated elements, such as stencils, stamps, hand created papers and found objects used in an unusual way to creat pattern, line, layers and depth. Even the surfaces we begin with can vary from traditional canvas to boards, boxes, drawers and other repurposed objects.
Our art evolves intuitively rather than recreating from a photograph image or a set of objects in a representational way. We allow the surface to evolve by layering thus allowing each artists expression and cumulative experiences become the finished product. Very much an exploration of each artist.
