For as long as we can remember we’ve been huge fans of the work of filmmaker Dave Markey. Whether it was wearing out at least three vhs copies of his killer doc 1991: The Year Punk Broke (featuring everyone from Nirvana, to Sonic Youth to the Ramones) or just endlessly quoting dialogue from his LoveDolls films (“Thanks for Killing My Mom”). Markey’s films stamped themselves onto our souls in a way that has continued on through the years. That’s why we’re unbelievably stoked to announce an evening long salute to the films of Mr. Markey including both Dave’s DIY classic 1982 hardcore punk doc Slog the Movie AND a screening of My Career as a Jerk Markey’s brand spankin new film about punk rock legends The Circle Jerks.
Pair all that up with the low low ticket price of five bucks, the availability of beer both cheap and not-so-cheap to enjoy during the films and the awe-inspiring awesomeness of the MES pre-show reel (and believe us the pre-show for this event is gonna be awful special) and there really isn’t too many cooler ways in this whole wide world to spend a Saturday night.
All proceeds from this event will be sent directly to Mr. Markey himself so you can feel good about the fact that you’re celebrating the work and career of a true independent filmmaker. Check out the trailers for My Career as a Jerk HERE:
