Be amazed at the superpowers of (real) creatures around us
Kids and adults will have the chance to be dazzled by the incredible oddities swimming around the tanks this ODDtober at the Tennessee Aquarium. As Halloween approaches, superheroes from all over join together at our very own aquarium to go for a swim with special aquatic creatures. Spiderman, The Incredibles, Wonder Woman, and more are ready to get wet for a Super ODDtober. But these superheroes aren’t the only ones with superpowers!
Each week in ODDtober, a new superhero creature will be featured for its amazing ability. First up are snapping turtles, which embody the power of super strength with their incredible chomping jaws that can snap the thickest objects.
Experience an educational program as you look upon the Ninja Turtles, witnessing the odd capability this animal possesses. And don’t miss the demonstration of the powerful snapping turtle’s jaws as the educator feeds it some treats.
Sharks and owls are armed with super senses, snakes with super mobility, and animals we think are so common they can’t possibly be super, such as crows and raccoons, fall into the category of super intelligence. “We see them all the time because their intelligence has made them survivors,” says aquarium employee Sara Carlson. “Super survivors!”
Watch the divers perform the truly odd art of underwater pumpkin carving on Saturdays at 11 a.m. As Halloween approaches, the aquarium becomes the AquaScarium on October 30 from 4 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Candy stations will be found throughout the building, as well as “Star Wars” characters, princesses, and aquarium mascots all dressed up, ready for the Monster Mash.
The exhibits will be decorated, so don’t be shocked to find a skeleton fishing or hear Cajun campfire stories in the Swamp. Download the free TN Aquarium app to make sure you don’t miss a single exhibit, with reminder alerts available to make sure you make it on time.
